Background : According to the latest statistics 35.6% of population in Azerbaijan composes youth with ages 15 to 34. According to the data by UNICEF, 99% of men and 96% of women are literate. The officially registered number of unemployed people are 54,4 thousand, which makes 1.4% of economically active population of country

About the Network : The Azerbaijan Network is a youth led initiative that has embarked on an enterprise solutions to poverty eradication. Subsequent to Azerbaijan hosting the 4th global youth employment summit in September, 2009, organized by YES Inc in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Heydar A liyev Foundation. The Network has undertaken several initiatives in the areas of policy advocacy, training workshops and youth capacity building programs aimed at promoting youth employment. Presently, the network is in the process of launching several projects and programs in partnership with multiple stakeholders.

Current Major Initiatives:

  • Initiated a project in partnership with United Nations Youth Program to support Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement project, titled, "End Human Trafficking Now". This project includes messages of eminent persons from all over the world.
  • Preparations are on to organize job fair for students, employment weeks in regions, skill training programs for youth
  • Fostered partnership with a private sector company to create tourism enterprises – working with the Ministry of Culture.
  • A project with the Ministry of Communication to work on a peace initiative is in progress.
  • Conference on topic “End Human Trafficking” conference in Baku September
  • YES Azerbaijan conference “time after 4th Global YES Summit”.

Key Accomplishments :

  • Hosted the 4th Global Youth Employment Summit at Baku in September 2008 with HE Mrs. Meherban Aliyeva, First Lady of Azerbaijan; and HE Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, First Lady of Egypt as the co-chairs. Attended by over 1600 delegates from over 90 countries. The Summit addressed the issues of Enterprise Solutions to Poverty Eradication. The 2008 Global Summit was telecasted on CNN worldwide and it has
    been published in various newspapers.
  • Placed the issue of youth unemployment on the country map by organizing several workshops, meetings and policy advocacy initiatives in partnership with several leaders in employment generation.
