Vision : Initiate a discussion space and motivation to materialize the project ideas of the youth for
entrepreneurship. generation
Background : In Guatemala near of 3,5 million inhabitants are young people (27,7% of the overall
population). The Index of Development of Guatemala was 117 in 2008. According with the Ministry of
Work during 2008 the unemployment rate was of 5.5%
About the Network : YES Guatemala goals are on employabil ity, empowerment, entrepreneurship and
education with a particular focus on rural development. For the next two years this network will mainly
develop projects that benefit young people from diverse social layers , 5 of the 7 strategic sectors and 7Es
of the YES Campaign. YES Guatemala has been building its capacity to construct processes in favor of
the Enterprising Cultures, Employability, and the Culture of the Voluntary military service. YES Guatemala
considers that the main areas of strengths are the types of alliances that it is projecting at present, seen
like opportunities detected in the national context. The YES Guatemala host agency is Junior Achiviement
Guatemala.
Current Major Initiatives :
- Working on an alliance with the Pacific Institute to develop a process of qualification for other
organizations of youth. Thanks to this YES Guatemala can have a concrete offer to add more
organizations working with youth to the YES network. (Pacific is a research institute that works to
advance environmental protection, economic development, and social equity. - http://www.pacinst.org/)
- YES Guateala is developing an alliance with the National Council of Youth (Conjuve) that can
provide support for the development and skill building of the young people for employability and
entrepreneurship.
- Management of specialized voluntary service to engage young people and children in K6
programs for a day organized by Junior Achievement. YES Guatemala is working for coordinating activities and bringing the green concept to its
members towards YES 2010.
Key Accomplishments :
- The management of volunteers to serve children and youth groups on specific business issues.• Installed capacity for the development of various project proposals and business development
- YES Guatemala have had an active participation and promotion across the YES networks in Latin
America about young social entrepreneurs. In YES Kenya 2006 it was recognized as the most
entrepreneurial network in this region through the project Huella Emprendedora
- Developed key partnerships with key stakehol ders such Junior Achivimient, Instituto DEMOS
Guatemala, COPREDEH, Incuba, Youth Entrepreneurs Guatemala, among others.
