Vision : To become the trend setters in Nepal through prom otion of green employment opportunities
aligned with climate change.
Background : With half the working-age population unemployed and nearly 40 percent of the population
under the age of 14, youth employment is a critical issue in Nepal. The Nepali workforce suffers from a
severe shortage of skilled labor, and YES Nepal is working to confront these challenges by leading the
"Green jobs" promotion in Nepal.
About the Network : Registered as an NGO, YES Nepal is a youth-led organization which advocates
youth-led development and works on sectors related environment, employment and entrepreneurship.
Most of its current activities are inclined towards climate change and energy conservation.
Current Major Initiatives:
- Promotion of energy efficient stoves for rural communities. Organizes trainings on construction
and repairing of these stoves thus directly creating green employment opportunities.
- Creating partnership with TERI for expansion of their Lighting a Billion Lives (LaBL) Campaign.
- Mobilizing environmental volunteers" EnviroCorps" for raising awareness on environmental issues
and convincing people to adopt environment friendly lifestyles.
- Change the Bulb Campaign to switch to efficient energy consumption, particularly from
incandescent bulb to compact fluorescent light bulbs.
- Campus Climate Challenge (C3) aims to promote clean energy revolution in colleges and
universities
- Green Evolution
Key Accomplishments :
- Enrolled major partners like UNEP, World Bank, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Change Fusion
and TERI
- The project concept "Green Evolution" of YES Nepal has been chosen as one of the finalist for
Nepalese Young Social Entrepreneurs Competition and YES Leader is now a Change Fusion
Fellow.
- Change the Bulb Campaign was successful to reduce the tax levied upon Compact Fluorescent
Bulbs to 1 % from 15 %.
- Due to lobbying, Government formed Ministry of Youth and Sports for the first time and are in the
process of developing a National Youth Policy.
